  • Why Ride?

    Here's why!

  • Sucker For Promotionals

I really am a sucker for freebies & cheapies; this time 'round it was for a three month magazine subscription to Fast Bikes for £3 which was offered thru' my email. The same email offered a 6 pound discount for the June 2008 Bike Fest down at Donnington Park, which I might just hold out for; you never know, I could get lucky and get them for free!

Anyhoo, if you want to book 'em, there's a discount code: PD101 which you can use at www.Bikefestuk.com. Tell me how you get on!

  • Warning: Victorious Beastie Approaching!

While at the London Bike Show, I happened across this futuristic looking beastie:

    Photobucket

I was immediately taken by it; the size of the darned thing, as well as its funky looks, (mind you, they do lay on the Mr Sheen at bike shows) and I took a quick shot of it.

I knew it was an American Victory motorcycle, but hadn't thought to find out the model or anything like that.

A month later, and I happened across a blog called Forty Years On Two Wheels, and there it was, the Victory Vision, a 1,700 cc behemoth of a bike, complete with every modern doodah imaginable. It weighs in at 365 kgs dry, is over 9 foot long, and almost 4 foot wide.

The price? A mere snip at £17,000!

    That's a lot of donuts...

  • So What Exactly Is The Ace Cafe?

    Photobucket

Well, all Bitish bikers know full well what the Ace is, it's a bikers' cafe down on the North Circular, a few moments from that hideous Ikea. Here's a write up from myvillage.com:

"The Ace Cafe became famous in the 1960s as a meeting point for bikers, the so-called ’ton-up’ boys who raced at high speed along the North Circular Road. Now it’s been refurbished as a shrine to bikers and the golden era of the ’ton up’ boys, with a friendly atmosphere, events and live rock n’ roll gigs.

At the Ace Cafe, they welcome all who share their passion. A passion, based upon the authentic roots of motorbikes and rock n’ roll.

The new café has been devised, designed and built by riders and fellow petrolheads, and invites visitors to make the most of the facilities and activities to ensure its history lives on. The way of expressing oneself, the music and the bikes have changed over the last decades, but the spirit and the motivation remains the same, non-conformist, rebellious, individual and authentic.

What the Triton and the "Ton" meant to bikers’ in the fifties, can still be found today on a Streetfighter or modern sports bike and will endure well into the new millennium. The Ace Cafe encompasses that spirit and is here to stay. So rev it up and let the good times roll! "

So, not just for bikers then. If you fancy a bit o' rock 'n' roll, Polish beer, decent greasy-spoon grub or a gander at whatever's on show, (we've had Subaru Imprezzas, Old Fords and Custom Bikes, to name but a few) then the Ace is worth popping down to.

Oh, and they do a gorgeous leather jacket, with all the accessories...

  • I had the decorators in today...

So I nipped out for a Sub.

  • How Is This Possible?

I have had two (read that, 2) visitors today, according to BCUK, but 52 pageviews. I don't even have that many pages!

Can anyone explain to me how this can happen? Has the world gone stark raving mad?

If you could recommend a decent page counter to put in my header, I'd really appreciate it!

    52 pageviews my arse...

  • Directions to Vines.

Unless you've already visited the site, here's how you get there:

Vines is located in Guildford Surrey, just off the A320 Woking Road. Slyfield Green.

From Junction 10 on the M25, take Guildford Exit from A3 and follow signs 320 Woking, over 3 Roundabouts then right at the traffic lights.

  • What Do Bikes and Frankfurters Have in Common?

    Ace Cafe Artwork

They'll both be available to try out down at Vines of Guildford this Saturday the 8th of March! I think it starts around 10-ish, and if you bring both parts of your license and a credit card (for the insurance) you can rideout on a BMW test bike. They won't actually make a transaction on the credit card by the way, it is only a precaution should you drop the bike; then the excess on the insurance is £500!

Yes, it is a sneaky little promo by Vines, but I like the idea of being fed to look at gorgeous models. Their new range of bikes won't be too bad either...

I'll be posting a map and stuff later today...watch this space!

  • The "biker mentality"

I don't really think I have the "biker mentality". I am someone who generally plays things safe. My hobbies include playing bridge and bowls - these are sports/hobbies usually associated with retired personages!

I actually joined this group slightly under false pretences... I was drawn in by the Ace Cafe sign and thought to myself: "hmm, could be a nice kind of atmos for tea and crumpet (or coffee and muffin, even).

Anyway, good luck with this web-venture. I will hang around for a few days but will probably leave your numbers as soon as you have some numbers to leave!

The number of times I have met Tobbot, is one; which is one more number than most UK Bloggers have met him!

  • Jackfrost's Response to "Shiny Jacket"

Oh, I love this video! Who can possibly resist the Fonz from "Happy Days?" No? Well, neither can I...

Even more incentive to own this jacket!

  • Shiny, Shiny, Jacket of Leather...

    Ace Cafe Photo

Everyone has their dream jacket I reckon, well here's mine.

The ACE is a classic half-belt 1950's style leather jacket. The manufacturer's, Aero Leather Clothing have taken the best elements from the countless jackets that have passed through the cafe over the years and combined them with the bast features from the famous Aero half-belt.

All jackets have the unique 'Ace Cafe London Collection by Aeroleather Clothing' label and will be numbered as part of a Limited Edition of 500 only available of each style.

The standard jacket is in horsehide, with nickel hardware, though there are a plethora of options to choose from, including:

    Steerhide
    Vintage Horsehide
    Various lining

    Hardware:
    Brass
    Antique Brass

A mere snip at £400, and with no protection, I will have to think about it!
